Cyber Bullying The Third Leading Cause Death For...

Suicide ranks as the third leading cause of death for American youths between the ages of 10-24. Research has identified that bullying is an environmental stress that increases the risk of adolescent suicide substantially. Approximately 20-35% of adolescents report being involved in bullying as a bully, victim or both (Litwiller Brausch, 2013). Traditional forms of bullying include; physical bullying which involves the infliction of physical harm, emotional bullying which includes verbal harassment or teasing and social bullying when someone is purposefully excluded (Novick, 2013). One definition for cyber bullying is, â€Å"the intentional and repeated harm inflicted through the use of computers, cell phones, or other electronic devices†, (Chisholm, 2014, p. 78). Cyber bullying can also be defined as, â€Å"any behavior performed through electronic or digital media by individuals or groups that repeatedly communicates hostile or aggressive messages intended to inflict harm or discomfort on others† (Foody, Samara, Carlbring, 2015). Cyber bullying is unique to other forms of bullying in many ways. A cyber bully is able to hide behind social media and is able to maintain secrecy while posting cruel messages to a vast audience. The perpetrator may also not realize the true effects of his actions because he is unable to see his victim while online; reducing his feeling of responsibility (Schneider, O Donnell, Stueve, Coulter, 2012). How Nature Can Be Seen Negatively Affecting The Characters...

Don’t Stop BeLEAFing Nature has always been viewed as beautiful and harmless. Flowers, trees, and even other things like the sky always make nature seem like it is the most fertile and gorgeous thing that God created. Nature also has many symbolic and metaphorical references to real life objects, places, and people. However, in the short story â€Å"Young Goodman Brown,† nature can be seen negatively affecting the characters. The story has many scenes of despair and discomfort when the natural world affects the characters well being. Human nature also comes into effect in this story, with actions being decided on the nature of the human. From the Satan ceremony being one of the most descriptive sections in the story, to the forest being yet†¦show more content†¦He can be seen walking back to his house and ignoring her presence. The story states, â€Å"But Goodman Brown looked sternly and sadly into her face, and passed on without a greeting† (Hawthorne n p). The reader can infer that after the ritual, Brown does not know what to think about anything anymore. He is discouraged and essentially in disbelief after what has happened. Brown doesn’t know if it is a dream or not, but he in shock when he wakes up, and doesn’t know what to do with his life. Forests, in many pieces of literature, represent chaos, freedom, magic, and many other metaphorical references. In â€Å"Young Goodman Brown†, the forest is where everything begins. Without the forest, the deciding factors of the story wouldn’t work out. Brown, in the beginning of the story, parted ways with Faith and takes a mysterious road. This is when chaos happens. Brown meets a unknown old man, and after that, everything changes. The forest in this story represents chaos and mischief. It can also be said that the forest has a bit of magic, too. One instance of magic is when the old man touches the tree. Hawthorne explains: As they went, he plucked a branch of maple to serve for a walking stick, and began to strip it of the twigs and little boughs which were wet with evening dew. Light: A Fundamental Force In Our World If asked what light is, one could say that it's one of the most basic elements of our world and our universe as we perceive it. It is through sight that we receive 90% of our information. It is through the use of telescopes aiding the naked eye that we are aware of the heavenly bodies around us. It is through light that the energy from the sun is transferred to us. The sun's energy supports the food chain; plants use it to turn water and CO2 into energy usable by other organisms. Solar energy was also used, indirectly, to produce all of the fossil fuels that we consume daily. Since light is such a basic part of our existence, we should have a basic understanding of what it is. What we call light, the intangible, powerful force that powers our world, is somewhat hard to define in real terms. It shares properties with both particles and waves. It follows the same rules as a wave does--it moves in a regular fashion, in a perfect sine wave at a certain frequency. It travels in a straight line, and is subject to refraction. All of these characteristics are found in waves of any type, from radio frequency waves, up to Gamma and X- rays. Light, however, also exhibits qualities characteristic of particles such as neutrons and protons. A photon, or quanta, is the "packet" of energy that is sent in a light wave. Like a particle, the photon is believed to have a finite mass, and has the ability to affect other matter. As light strikes a photovoltaic solar cell, it knocks electrons in the silicon atoms on the surface into a higher state of energy. When these return to their normal, or "ground" state, energy is produced in the form of electricity. Thus, light is termed a "wave-particle," and this property is called the "wave-particle duality of nature." Many questions concerning what makes up light still lie unanswered, but this much is thought to be true. Light can be produced in a variety of ways. Our sun, like other stars, uses nuclear fusion to produce energy in the form of light and radiation. We can produce light artificially using several methods. If one starts a fire, it produces light and heat. (Heat, which is infrared radiation, is another type of light energy.) The light and heat are a result of a chemical reaction, the combining of oxygen with the carbon in the wood. This reaction leaves behind products which have less potential energy than they started with. The energy, which left as light and heat, was produced when electrons dropped in energy levels during the reaction. The excess energy from one atom was given off as a photon, producing light. If one examines a fluorescent or incandescent light bulb, one can see that all it is doing is having electricity stimulate a metallic or gaseous substrate, causing it to give off photons. The principle is the same as it was with the fire, only it is more controlled. Still more controlled is the laser, which puts out its photons in a single frequency. This is achieved through a carefully designed apparatus which stimulates materials in a way that allows them to only put out light at a certain wavelength. Laser light is, therefore, of all one color. White light, or sunlight, is a broad mixture of wavelengths. All methods of producing light, natural and artificial, share one common feature: they rely on electrons changing energy levels to produce the photons. As there are a variety of methods of producing light, so are there a multitude of ways it can be applied. The most obvious use of light is in supporting our food chain. Without light energy, nothing could live on our planet. The plants, which are at the bottom of the food chain, supply energy to all other organisms. We as humans are adapted to having sunlight around us, and taking in information with our eyes. Aside from keeping us alive, light is also employed in highly specialized applications. Laser light is being used in surgery. The highly concentrated beam of light is far more precise than any surgeon's hand, and much finer than the sharpest blade. As is known, a lot of diseases can caused by smoking such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes, stroke, and chronic lung disease. Second the other bad impact is not just on the health but social and economic impacts will also be affected by tobacco consumption and exposure to secondhand smoke. Don't you wonder why I said that? It is because I really know what it's like to be a minority among smokers in my own place, for the example when I' m using a public transport I almost can't escape from the cigarette smoke it means that in my city the public transportat ion does not apply the smoking rules, when in fact the government has set the rules related to this case. It regulated on the government regulation of the republic of Indonesia no. 19 year 2003 on the safeguards of cigarettes for health stated in article 22 " Public places, health facilities, workplaces and places that are specifically places for teaching and learning, arena of children's activities, places of worship and public transport are declared non-smoking areas. " Actually the increase of cigarette smoke can be overcome by several ways such as double the price of cigarette and the taxes raised can be used to fund the government programs. So what about the role of us as the society? the smallest thing is that we can tell the dangers of smoking to our nearest person. The other way is we can advocate for governments on the enforcement of cigarette regulations and organize anti-smoking campaigns in our own place.
